Digital Currency Exchange (DCE) and Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) Summit

On the 24th of June 2021, Blockchain Australia hosted a digitial currency exchange (DCE) and virtual asset service provider (VASP) summit.

The discussion was focussed on the development of a regulatory framework that is fit for purpose in an Australian context. The subject matter covered during the 90 minute event included, local and global regulatory landscape, banking service challenges including debanking, FATF’s travel rule and scams impacting the industry.

The event was attended by representatives of –

The views of a number of legal community members including @piperalderman @holleynethercote @millsoakley @hallandwilcox @kingandwoodmallesons were heard. The dialogue affirmed that the path to a regulatory regime is readily achievable with appropriate checks and balances in place to protect the interests of retail investors.

The event was also attended by representatives from @treasury, @ASIC @AUSTRAC @AUSTRADE and @ASBFEO. We are grateful for their participation and for the opportunity to have voices from the industry heard en masse.

Cryptocurrency, crypto exchanges and digital assets are creating and generating enormous interest both locally and globally. A constructive dialogue between industry participants, Blockchain Australia as the industry voice and the regulators and Government bodies that seek to navigate a path to regulatory certainty are invaluable. They are conversations that we will facilitate at every opportunity.

Those seeking to participate actively in this discourse are encouraged to reach out to Blockchain Australia. Enquiries with respect to membership of our organisation can be addressed to members @ blockchainaustralia.org
