Digital Assets (Market Regulation) Bill 2023 Consultation

The Digital Assets (Market Regulation) Bill 2023, introduced by Senator Andrew Bragg is open for consultation until May 19th.

The Bill aims to protect consumers and promote investment by recommending regulatory changes for stablecoin issuers, licensing of exchanges and those providing custody.

Regulation of crypto-assets is a technology matter which must be above politics, and Blockchain Australia advocates for a shared responsibility for the regulation of crypto involving members, policymakers and industry stakeholders. As the digital asset industry continues to grow and evolve, effective regulation will be critical in promoting innovation, protecting consumers, and ensuring the stability and security of the industry.

We are excited about the certainty that good regulation can bring and the positive impact that we believe the digital asset and blockchain industry will have as the Australian financial community build the financial rails of the future.

We will be collecting our member and stakeholder’s views and running working groups to help build the industry response to the Digital Assets (Market Regulation) Bill 2023. Blockchain Australia will be conducting a member roundtable to discuss the Digital Assets (Market Regulation) Bill 2023 on Wednesday, April 19th at 1:00 PM. Members are encouraged to register for the roundtable.

For all inquiries please reach out to Gordon Little, Policy Lead at Blockchain Australia.
