Michael Bacina

One of only 4 Band 1 ranked Fintech lawyers in Australia (Chambers & Partners) in 2019 and 2020, Michael was a finalist for Blockchain Australia’ Leader of the Year and was Blockchain Influencer of the Year in 2019. Michael leads Piper Alderman’s Blockchain Group, which was a finalist for Blockchain Advisor of the Year in 2019. Michael also is part of Piper Alderman’s Fintech Group and is a Key Contributor to the  Blockchain National Roadmap RegTech Working Group. A former software developer. Michael is a Fellow of Blockchain Australia and serves on the board of the Canadian Australian Chamber of Commerce. Michael advises and represents technology and blockchain clients including start-ups, digital currency exchanges, security token and digital security issuers, cryptocurrency traders, software developers and enterprise blockchain projects in both commercial and litigious matters. Michael holds a B.Com (MQU), LL.B. (MQU), LL.M. (UNSW) a G.D.L.P. (Collaw), is a sessional academic at Charles Sturt University and is admitted to practice law in the High Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of New South Wales. In his mere moments of spare time, Michael writes about Technology and legal matters at, presents at conferences internationally (more virtually right now) and is working on DAO Book collaboration with global contributors. Michael sees blockchain and DLT as new the infrastructure of the future and is committed to keeping Blockchain Australia at the forefront of leadership in our journey to new ways of automating our economy and discovering new efficiencies.
